gleaves > This picture shows where a tree has been cut down. Notice how hollow it was. Most of the trees that were cut down were like this or worse. The next bad storm and many tombstones would be broken as these fell.
gleaves > This tall cedar tree has been hit by lightning several times, causing it to become 'one-sided' and it needs to come down. The problem: how to get it down without damaging any tombstones?
gleaves > Owen prepares to throw a small rope with a weight on one end over a tree limb. Once it is over a secure limb, he will attach a heavier rope to the other end of the lighter rope and pull the heavier rope over the limb. Now this heavy rope can be used to guide and control where the tree will fall after it is cut.
gleaves > Unfortunately the weighted rope would not reach a secure limb. What to do?
gleaves > It's then decided that George, the fireman, will climb the ladder to secure the rope.
gleaves > The ladder is not long enough. So George just continues to climb the tree!
gleaves > George works in the tree looking for a good place to secure the rope.
gleaves > George is still up there. Are we not blessed to have such great cousins!
gleaves > Owen studies how he is going to cut down the tree.
